The project „SortOptAP“ (“Improvement of the value chain of waste paper sorting by adaptive control of sorting units”) aims at improving the recovery of high-quality papers with enhanced process control and process parameters. The increased recovery of the high-value deinking fraction (e.g. magazines, graphic papers, newspapers) will improve the cost-effectiveness of waste paper sorting plants. With regard to the higher revenue generated with improved product quality and yield, this project proved that a conversion of waste into valuables is possible.

All project results combined helped to develop an adaptive control methodology for single sorting units as well as whole plants. Upscale pilot trials proved the applicability of the implemented methodology for an improved value chain of waste paper sorting.
