Learning objectives:

The aim is to build up a fundamental understanding of anthropogenic material flows, especially their systematics, value chains and possibilities of recycling. Students will gain an overview of the development of the raw material sector and circular economy as well as knowledge of the mechanisms of free and regulated markets and the recycling industry including its legal basis and organizational structure.

Further learning objectives include:

  • Knowledge of material systems
  • In-depth knowledge of the most important raw material consumers and the respective importance of secondary raw materials
  • Technical requirements for secondary raw materials (focus on requirements profile by producers)
 

Content:​

  • Sustainable use of raw materials in a circular economy, waste as a raw material
  • Adressed material streams: glass, paper, light packaging, plastics, e-waste
  • Legal framework: Closed Substance Cycle Waste Management Act (Kreislaufwirtschaftsgesetz), Packaging Act (VerpackungsG), Dual Systems, Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG)
