Sensor-based sorting systems are an essential part of modern recycling systems. In the recently published book chapter "Sensor-based Sorting" in the second new edition of the "Handbook of Recycling", Xiaozheng Chen, Nils Kroell, Alexander Feil and Kathrin Greiff from ANTS summarize the current state of the art on sensor technology in recycling systems, from the physical fundamentals to current applications, and provide an outlook on the future potential of sensor technology for closing material loops. The book is published by Elsevier and available on the publisher's website. Many thanks to the editors Christina Meskers, Ernst Worrell and Markus A. Reuter for allowing us to contribute our sensor technology expertise to this important standard work.
