New publication series on costing single-use plastic products in public waste collection systems
The EU Single-Use Plastics Directive aims to reduce the impact of certain plastic products on the environment. This includes the aim to limit the quantity of littered single-use plastic products in the environment. As part of the extended producer responsibility, manufacturers of single-use plastic products must contribute to the costs of public waste collection systems. One approach to develop a cost model is to determine the quantities disposed of in public waste collection systems. So far, there are no generally valid instructions or methods for the sampling of public waste collection systems. In this context, a publication series is published by ANTS, in which a method for sampling and determining single-use plastic products in public waste collection systems is developed. The second step includes an application of the method to the single-use plastic product "tobacco product with filter". The results can contribute to the implementation of the EU Single-Use Plastics Directive.
